A hands-on family experience in growing, harvesting & using herbs

Spend the morning with us exploring how herbs move from the garden into everyday life at home.

Together, families will explore our herb garden, learn how to grow and harvest herbs, and discover some of the many ways they can be used. We’ll harvest fresh herbs, make and enjoy an herbal tea, prepare a tincture, and make an herb-infused salve to take home.

Your family will leave with your own handmade herbal preparations, practical knowledge you can use at home, and a better understanding of how the plants growing right outside your door can become useful parts of everyday family life.

Friday, September 4 • 9:30am–12:00pm
Northwest Monument, Colorado
$120 per family
This workshop is intentionally limited to 6 families.

This is not a drop-off class. Parents, children, and grandparents are invited to participate together.

Want to stay a little longer? Families are welcome to bring a picnic lunch and stay after the workshop to eat, visit, and enjoy some unhurried time together on the homestead.

One registration is for your whole family—parents, children, and grandparents are welcome to participate together.

from garden to apothecary

What happens when the herbs growing in the garden become more than plants we water, weed, and occasionally add to dinner?

From Garden to Apothecary is an immersive A Homemade Heritage Family Workshop exploring the journey from growing herbs to harvesting, preserving, and putting them to use in our homes.

We’ll begin in the garden, exploring some of the herbs growing right in our backyard. We’ll talk about choosing herbs to grow, what they need to thrive, when and how to harvest them, and different ways to preserve them for later use.

Families will have the opportunity to see, touch, smell, taste, and harvest herbs while discovering some of the many ways they can be used around the home and homestead.

We’ll even stop by the chickens and talk about some of the herbs we grow and share with them.

Then we’ll take what we’ve harvested and move from garden to apothecary.

Together, we’ll make and enjoy an herbal tea, prepare a tincture, and create an herb-infused salve while learning the basic methods behind each preparation.

Rather than simply following a few recipes, we want families to begin understanding the process—how to take something growing in the garden and turn it into something useful.

keep going at home

We don’t want the experience to end when you leave our homestead.

Your family will take home the herbal preparations you make during the workshop, along with resources designed to help you continue growing, harvesting, preserving, and using herbs at home.

The goal isn’t “homework.” It’s to help your family discover that you really can take what you’ve learned here and do it again in your own space—even if your herb garden begins with just a few pots on the porch.

A Note About Seasonal Herbs

Because this workshop is rooted in growing and working with real plants, exactly what is available in the garden will depend on the season, weather, and what is ready to harvest.

That’s part of the experience.

Rather than designing the workshop around perfectly predictable ingredients, we’ll work with what’s growing and learn how to recognize, harvest, preserve, and use herbs in season. Specific herbs or projects may be adjusted slightly if needed while still providing the same hands-on learning experience and skills your family can carry home.

stay for lunch

The workshop officially ends at noon, but you don’t have to hurry home.

Families are invited to bring a picnic lunch and stay afterward to eat, visit, let the kids spend a little more time together, and enjoy the homestead.

There’s no additional program or scheduled activity during lunch—just an open invitation to linger and connect.

Staying for lunch is completely optional, and families are welcome to head home when the workshop ends.

And there is no need to decide right now, you can let us know if you plan to join us closer to the workshop date.

more than learning a skill

A Homemade Heritage Family Workshops are designed to be more than traditional classes.

Our hope is to create meaningful experiences where parents and children can learn, work, problem-solve, make something real, and discover what they’re capable of together.

We want your family to leave not only knowing more about herbs, but inspired to carry more learning, making, growing, experimenting, and working together into everyday family life.

That’s why we intentionally keep our workshops small. We want room for questions, participation, conversation, exploration, and connection—not a rushed checklist of activities.

want more than one project set?

Every family registration includes one complete set of materials for all of our hands-on take-home projects.

If your family would like additional sets so siblings or family members can work more independently, you may add:

Additional Project Set — $25 each

Each additional set includes:

    • An additional herbal tea blend to take home
    • An additional tincture-making jar, herbs, and ingredients
    • An additional amber dropper bottle for the finished tincture
    • An additional herbal salve to make and take home
    • An additional take-home herbal infusion kit to make another salve from scratch
    • Any additional containers, labels, and materials associated with the projects

That way, each person with an additional set can make their own herbal preparations during the workshop and continue the projects at home.

who is this for?

This workshop is designed for families to participate together.

We welcome a wide range of ages, and children will naturally participate at different levels depending on their age, interest, and ability. Parents remain alongside their children throughout the experience and are responsible for determining which activities are appropriate for them.

Our workshops are genuinely hands-on and may involve garden tools, kitchen equipment, hot ingredients, animals, plants, or other activities with inherent risks. Families should come prepared to participate together and supervise their own children throughout the experience.
